Positive Discipline Workshop

Not many connect the word discipline with the term positive, but under the direction and expertise of Dr. Rene you’ll learn how to use techniques to instill positive, healthy behaviors. The Positive Discipline Workshop will help parents learn:

  • Various ways to approach discipline situations with your child

  • Methods to help your child express their emotions without “melting down”

  • Specific language to effectively solve discipline exchanges

  • The role of consequences in discipline situations

  • The importance of consistent response from parents

  • How to diffuse potentially difficult situations such as tantrums and power struggles

The Positive Discipline Workshop will provide parents with useful skills and methods that will improve communication and will allow you to spend more quality time together. Parents will learn about expected behaviors by age and a wide range of ways to solve common issues. Fewer battles, better listening, more peace! The Workshop is designed for parents of children 1 to 10 years old.

Eight Hour Series – 4 sessions each running two hours will be offered in the evenings. This workshop costs $120 per single participant, $200 per couple.

One day/five-hour workshop - is offered from 9:00am-3:00pm with a one hour lunch break on Saturdays throughout the year. The cost is $75 per single participant, $125 per couple.

We also highlight the techniques for managing power struggles and tantrums with 30 minutes of open Q&A time. This is available to anyone who has taken the five or eight hour workshop. The cost of the review session is $30 per single participant, $50 per couple.

Positive Discipline for Nannies and Babysitters - based on our popular Positive Discipline workshops, this class time will cover an hour on proactive discipline techniques and two hours on the steps of positive discipline. All discussion will be focused on the needs of extended caregivers.

Dads Only Workshops
Many of the moms in our workshops have said their husbands "don't want to be the only dad in the room" during our evening and weekend sessions.  Their suggestion was to offer Dads Only Workshops.  We are looking forward to the challenge!

Our Dads Only Workshops will happen on Sunday evenings from 7:00 - 9:00 pm.  Please click below to see our most current schedule of workshops.

Eight Weeks to Positive Discipline
A Workbook by Rene Hackney, PhD

Based on her popular 8-hour Positive Discipline Workshop, Dr. Rene presents this practical and well researched workbook.

This is an important book for parents of one- to ten-year-old children. The 200 page text covers the steps in discipline from "I" messages, empathy and choices to logical and natural consequences. It also thoroughly addresses managing tantrums, whining, backtalk, picky eaters and sleep issues. There are sections on forced apologies, alternatives to "no," parenting style, the use of rewards and catching children being good. The text also presents ways to effectively use time-outs and 1-2-3 magic.

The workbook includes ten practice items per discipline technique with three to four sample answers. This provides the reader with thirty to forty models of each technique in action. It is the perfect complement to the Positive Discipline Workshop and will help parents reinforce what they learned in the Workshop to apply in the home.
