Social Skills Groups

Providing your child with both a helpful boost - and a leg up. Enrolling your child in a Social Skills Group will help nurture and develop their abilities to interact more harmoniously with their friends, teachers, and siblings, in your home, in school and other social situations. The compelling and important skills learned in this class will help your child succeed and will enable them to feel more confident and less frustrated.

Created by Dr. Rene and two Nationally Certified School Psychologists, Barbara Evans and Madhuri Ralph, the Social Skills Group is offered as either an 8-week or 16-week program designed to improve your child’s ability to:

  • Identify, manage and communicate emotions in healthy and respectful manner

  • Improve listening skills

  • Foster better impulse control and appropriate manners

  • Learn to share and take turns

  • Develop play skills

  • Improve friendships

  • Understand causes and consequences of emotions

  • Negotiate and manage conflict

  • Make decisions and follow directions

  • Understand and deal with anger and aggression

  • Participate in competition by being a good sport, learning to win and lose

The classes are fun and interactive. Children will have weekly homework activity to complete with parents to reinforce what they learn in class. Activities include movement games, art activities, puppet shows and story time to teach the weekly topic.

Age Requirement – your child must be at least three years old, and no older than nine years old, when beginning the Social Skills Group. Classes are held for 3- to 4-year-olds, 5- to 6-year-olds, and 7- 9-year-olds.  The curriculum is modified to be age appropriate.

The cost of this program is $40 per class, $160 per month. Space is limited to 12 children per class with two psychologist instructors and one or two preschool teachers.

Social Skills Groups Summer Camp
Based on our popular Social Skills Groups, we've designed a one-week Summer Camp Session for 4 - 9 year olds.  This is available at both our Alexandria and Falls Church locations this summer.

Join us July 19th - 23rd in Falls Church OR July 26th-30th in Alexandria.

We are going to focus all activities on school readiness.  This includes making and keeping friends, joining play, listening, participating in discussions, turn taking, waiting patiently and more.  While the children will be hard at work and learning new skills, they will be having FUN!  They will be learning through movement games, art projects, board games, read alouds, circle times, puppets shows, role plays and open play.

Space is limited to 12 children in each group.  This 7.5 hour, 5 day program will be run by two psychologists and a teacher.  The cost is $300 (based on $40 per hour).

Please visit our Camps page for more information or to enroll.
