Lunch Hour Lectures for Working
Parents Parenting Playgroups and Dr. Rene Hackney are pleased to offer several lunch hour lecture series for working parents. Originally a full-time preschool teacher, Dr. Hackney now holds graduate degrees in school and developmental psychology. She has offered workshops to a wide range of parent, teacher and social work groups during her last five years with Parenting Playgroups. All workshops provide well researched lecture, in-class practice and open discussion time. These lectures are offered one hour per week. There is no travel cost within the DC metropolitan area. Outlines and certificates of participation are provided. Fifty parenting related lecture topics are available and may be substituted in the workshops listed below. We also discuss managing tantrums, whining and backtalk, the use of time-outs and 1-2-3 magic, the use of rewards, catching children beings good, stating directions in the positive and evaluative v. descriptive praise. This workshop is designed for parents of children two to ten years old. ______________________________
Five Hour EARLY ACADEMICS SERIES Our five hour series on Early Academic Issues covers early reading, writing, math and science development and activities. We also discuss the language of scaffolding, building academic motivation and attention span, parental involvement, NAEYC accreditation and Kindergarten readiness.
